Project “Integrating and advocating for Social-Ecological Transformation (SET) in Vietnam’s tertiary education – year 2021”

BACKGROUND

Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) is a Vietnamese not-for-profit organization established in 2008. C&E works to promote participation and improve capacity of local community groups and organizations for better solutions to environmental issues that are related to their life, contributing to the development of civil society and sustainable environment in Vietnam.

The project Integrating and advocating for Social-Ecological Transformation (SET) in Vietnam’s tertiary education – the year 2021 will be conducted by C&E from June to December 2021 with the sponsorship of RLS SEA, aims to encourage and facilitate students’ access to new knowledge and open up the potentials for the application of social-ecology theory and practice in everyday life and career. In addition, the project will particularly target university students and lecturers’ integration of Social-Ecological Transformation into their personal and professional life, in light of prevailing challenges arising due to climate change. The intended major approach to realize this goal is education, awareness-raising, professional development and practices as well as practical interventions for SET, specifically training courses for Vietnamese students including lecturers and young leaders to equip them with knowledge and skills in combating climate change and social- ecological crisis, toward the emerging social-ecological movement in Vietnam. The project is expected to enhance target participants’ motivation for practicing social-ecological sustainability and taking initiatives and share their lived experience of youth practitioners in undertaking social-ecological projects.

To be more specific, four activities will be carried out, namely (1) SET documentation, communication and networking (2) A Training of trainers (TOT), (3) SET curriculum and piloting for teaching SET in one university and (4) An Ecoweek campaign.

The aims of the project are as follows:

Overall objective: The objective is not only about SET integration in the education sector but also to promote ecological lifestyle and movement among Vietnamese youth (students and young lecturers at university).

Project objectives

  • SET approach will be further documented, exchanged scientifically among university lecturers, policy makers, and practitioners at national level by 2021
  •  SET module will be piloted and integrated in the curriculum of one university by 2021
  • SET network will be further expanded and maintained at national and international level by 2021

 

C&E Center is looking for professionals to work in the project activities in 04 different positions related to this TOR as listed below

  1. CONSULTANT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF 02 TOOLKITS ON SET PRINCIPLE THEORY & CIRCULAR ECONOMY

To build change awareness and promote ecological and social solutions with the communities, We are seeking two (02) qualified consultants to categorize general knowledge, collect the best practices, challenges, recommendations, and integration methods on either (02) toolkits on Social – Ecological Transformation (SET) and Circular Economy. These toolkits will be authored to provide the trainers with sufficient knowledge, and the ability to integrate those topics in their current teaching activities.

Scope of work:

The consultant’s work includes but not limited to the following task:

  • Provide a proposal toolkit of SET/ Circular Economy in Vietnamese, about 60 pages in length. , its needs and importance, based on relevant documents and studies.
  • Deliver the manuscript of the work; read, revise, correct, and return promptly all proofs of the work in consultation with C&E. 

Expected deliverables:  

A  toolkit of SET/ Circular Economy in Vietnamese, about 60 pages in length together with any necessary permissions and all photographs, illustrations and indexes suitable for reproduction and necessary to the completion of the work.

Duration of post:

2. CONSULTANT FOR DEVELOP A BOOK STORY OF YOUTH ECOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL INITIATIVES IN VIETNAM

As a component of the project, the project will launch a communication initiative in the form of a book using Community Storytelling method to promote ecological practices in Vietnam’s three main regions. The book is intended to be used as part of participatory processes that support efforts to empower and disseminate Social – Ecological Transformation topic and to build change awareness and promote ecological and social solutions within the communities. 

Scope of work:

We are seeking two (02) consultants to write   06 case stories about SET practices and approaches by young individuals or organizations in Vietnam. The consultant’s work includes but not limited to the following task:

  • Collect 06 best currently active SET practices by young individuals or organizations in Vietnam, from real life and from C&E 2019’s research case studies.
  • Develop those stories in the form of a storytelling book in Vietnamese, about 60 pages in length, with details on the individual/organization approaches, processes and challenges, and provide recommendations and lessons learned.
  • Deliver to C&E the manuscript of the work; read, revise, correct, and return promptly all proofs of the work in consultation with C&E. 

Expected deliverables: a storytelling book in Vietnamese, about 60 pages in length, together with any necessary permission and all photographs, illustrations and indexes suitable for reproduction and necessary to the completion of the work.

3. CONSULTANT FOR DEVELOP A SYLLABUS OF A SOCIAL ECOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION TO PILOT IN A UNIVERSITY

As a component of the project, the project will launch a pilot teaching program in Hoa Sen University, with the SET as the subject, and students will get credited as other official subjects of the university. 

We are seeking two (02) consultant to  undertake the development of a comprehensive curriculum about SET to serve as the framework for the teaching activities in Hoa Sen University’s pilot program.

Scope of work:

The consultants’ work includes but not limited to the following task:

  • Undertake desk research and analyze all the necessary documents/database, training material to fully apprehend the needs and existing training material related to SET for Hoa Sen students.
  • Produce a well written and comprehensive curriculum about SET for Hoa Sen students, with a special focus on the capacity building for students to engage in community work and services, especially in environment and ecology and serve as the foundation for students’ future initiatives to make ecological and social change.

Expected deliverables

A final syllabus of SET includes all required contents of the curriculum, together with any necessary permissions and indexes suitable for reproduction and necessary to the completion of the work.

Consultant’s Qualifications, skills and competencies

Professional qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a pertinent field (for example: SET, circular, economics, natural resources, social science, sustainability or other relevant subjects).
  • Having  5 – 10 years working experience on relevant fields;

Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid knowledge and skill in education;
  • Strong academic/storytelling writing skills;
  • Practical experience in training course on environment, sustainable development, community development, design thinking, experiential learning;
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in building training materials and student engagement activities, such as debate, discussion, project building and assignment.
  • Excellent communication skills in Vietnamese

 Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and interactions in a dynamic context;
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and in stressful conditions;
  • Team-oriented: proven ability and motivation to collaborate with others, find solutions and share successes together with colleagues and partners.

 

4. DESIGNER FOR 02 TOOLKITS AND STORY

Regarding above SET documentation activities, we are seeking one (01) designer to provide C&E with the designing and visual consultation on C&E’s toolkits and story book. The consultant will contribute to the development and improvement of the design and layout of the toolkits and the book with high quality and original graphic design, ensuring that they are following C&E branding and graphic guidelines. The consultant’s work includes but not limited to the follow:

  • Study the style and concepts of sustainability publications, particularly SET and circular economy publications;
  • Transform raw training material and storyboard from the authors into production – two toolkits and a storytelling book.
  • In collaboration with the author to facilitate the integration of technical content into the form of Toolkits and Book in order to ensure its visual quality and comprehensibility.

Expected deliverables

  • Graphic design/layout of the SET and the Circular economy toolkits;
  • Graphic design/layout of the storytelling book;
  • Printing packages (all layout and design files for publications) of the two toolkits and the book.

Qualifications, skills and competencies

Professional qualifications

  • 1-2 year of experience in graphic design
  • Ability to illustrate and lay out visually appealing documents, books or other forms of publication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and think proactively
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and/or other design tools
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and intermediate English-written and reading.

Competencies

  • Keen eyes for creative design
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and in stressful conditions;
  • Team-oriented: proven ability and motivation to collaborate with other, find solutions and share successes together with colleagues and partners;

CONSULTANCY FEE, PROPOSAL & SUBMISSION

  • Contract Supervision

The consultant will work closely with C&E on composition process and technical issues, as well as will be supervised on the quality of the work. C&E staff are also responsible to provide necessary support to help the trainers to complete this duty.

C&E shall have the exclusive right to edit or modify the delivered materials at their discretion prior to publication. However, the consultant shall have the right to review any modifications and grant approval prior to publication.

  • Submission
