Background 

Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) is a Vietnamese not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation established in 2008 that works to promote participation and improve capacity of local, grassroots-level community groups and organisations, for a more ecological and participatory lifestyle among young people, better solutions to environmental issues that are related to their life, and development of civil society and sustainable environment in Vietnam. C&E has rich experience in organizing capacity building for youth in Social Ecological transformation, building foundations and pathways to develop ecological lifestyle education in Vietnam as well as in the Indochina region. C&E has developed a national network of youth groups and grass-root organizations that work in the field of sustainable development and environmental protection.

The project Integrating and advocating for Social-Ecological Transformation (SET) in Vietnam’s tertiary education – the year will be conducted by C&E from June to December 2022 with the sponsorship of Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southeast Asia (RLS SEA) and aims to engage the Vietnamese youth in ecological and social issues by providing them with necessary tools to live an ecological life and do community services and motivate them to take youth actions through education.

As a component of the project, a Training of Trainers (TOT) course on integration of social-ecological transformation subjects into educational activities will be offered to university lecturers, and representatives from youth organizations, both of whom have the resources to disseminate the knowledge and skills to their students.

Activity description

The TOT training course “Exploring socio-ecological transformation in education” aims to provide participants with knowledge of social and ecological issues and approaches to integration of the topics into their own teaching; experience challenges and opportunities of integrating socio-ecological issues into the curricular and extracurricular programs. The whole training course is also expected to be the simulations of novel pedagogical methods through a variety of learning activities, and to enhance target participants’ motivation for practicing social-ecological sustainability and taking initiative and sharing their lived experiences as youth practitioners in undertaking social-ecological projects. 

The  TOT training is expected to be conducted in week 4 of June, 2022

–      Training course: 01 class 4 days 

–      Daily schedule time: morning 8:00 – 12:00am, afternoon 1:30 – 5:00pm

–      Host location: Hoa Bac, Cu Lao Cham and Cam Thanh, Da Nang 

–      Quantity of participants: 26 participants 

C&E Center is looking for professionals to work in the project activities in 02 different positions related to this TOR as listed below:

• 03 trainers to conduct 01 class

• Scope of Work

We expect four (03) trainers to implement several training sessions in the  TOT course with the work including but not limited to the following task:

• In consultation with C&E and program designer to develop the detailed content and training materials of the course, ensure the flow of the training course;
• Develop a one-day TOT session related to trainer expertise on unconventional approaches to integrating socio-ecological transformation into educational activities, possibly specified in SET Theory, Circular Economy, Eco-space, Responsible Tourism, zero waste, preservation for at least 26 participants from different universities and organizations. All of the materials should be reviewed and approved by C&E at least 3 working days before the training date;
• Be prepared  for a rehearsal before TOT, with topic, duration and participants listed above;
• During the course, the trainer should facilitate activities during training sessions, discuss with trainees the possible issues relating to the content and the successful implementation of the course;
• Respond to any questions from all participants of the training based on their experience and position. 

• Expected deliverables

The course’s content and quality training materials for a particular subject of the training course which includes but are not limited to: syllabus, presentation and other course requirements (e.g., tasks, quizzes, game..) 

•  Qualifications and skills 

• Master or higher education in society, environment, sustainable development, natural resource management, education, and similar fields;
• Having at least 5 years of working experience in relevant fields;
• Practical experience in training courses on environment, sustainable development, community development, design thinking, experiential learning;
• Excellent communication skills in Vietnamese
• 02 organizers to assist class

Scope of Work

We are seeking two (02) assistants to support C&E team in planning and implementing 01  training activity. The assistant  work includes but is not limited to the following task:

• Be responsible for the translation, logistics and administration aspects, in addition to supporting the invited experts with the curriculum revision and modification as well as playing the role of facilitator if needed.
• Support and coordinate activities of training events: communication, participant selection, training venue & training aid activities.
• Be the focal contact and work with trainers to provide assistance and other related requirements.
• Assist in facilitating activities during training sessions under C&E direction, discuss with trainees the possible issues relating to the content and the successful implementation of the course;
• Respond to any questions from all participants of the training based on their experience and position.

Expected deliverables

Logistic, communication and training aid services during the course.

Qualifications and skills 

• Bachelor or higher education in society, environment, sustainable development, natural resource management, education, and relevant fields;
• Having at least 2 years of working experience; 
• Practical experience of integrating methods in training activities such as world cafe, debate, experiential learning etc.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and interactions in a dynamic context;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and in stressful conditions;
• Team-oriented: proven ability and motivation to collaborate with others, find solutions and share successes together with colleagues and partners;
• Continuous learning attitude and willingness to adapt to new tools, methodologies and ways of working.

Contract Supervision

The consultant team will work closely with the C&E on technical issues and implementing plans as well as will be supervised the quality of training materials and facilitation. C&E staff are also responsible for providing necessary support to help the trainers to complete this duty.

Duration of post: The time required for trainers is at least 04 working days in week 4 of June 2022, and for the organizes is 8 working days before, during and after the training course.
