Experts for development and finalisation of curriculums on Ecological Lifestyle Education (training toolkits) sponsor agency: Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung

PROJECT BACKGROUND

It is essential to strengthen the capacity for a more ecological and participatory lifestyle among young people and create foundations and pathways to develop ecological lifestyle education in Vietnam as well as in the region. Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) is a Vietnamese NGO working with the community and grass-roots. C&E has developed a national network of youth groups and grass-roots organizations that work in the field of sustainable development and environmental protection. C&E has rich experience organizing capacity building for youth, particularly through ecological lifestyle and Youth Change Vietnam.

Under 02 projects:  “Partnership to support and promote informal and non-formal education for advocating ecological lifestyle and climate change adaptation and mitigation in Vietnam Universities – 2015-2017” and “Scaling up and mainstreaming innovative approaches on ecological movement into activities of universities 2018 – 2020” supported by  RLS with the aims to create an effective Eco-network engaging individuals, trainers, universities and organizations into acting towards eco-lifestyle and sustainability education and to promote the idea and practice of ecological lifestyle education among universities and youth networks in Vietnam. Especially, based on the result from survey data, regional TOT, advocacy workshop,….C&E will be responsible for facilitating the review and integration process of these project and providing case studies from its work with the community and the youth in Vietnam. They will also provide linkages with other Vietnamese NGOs and international organizations working in this field to the programs. The C&E will involve students with not only in-class teaching but also extra-curricular activities, such as field classes to raise environmental awareness and embed a sustainable culture.

To deepen the project’s impact, in the year 2019, C&E will work with experts for reviewing and developing the training material with new topics, co-coaching TOT training and also carry out the Eco-week to promote the idea and practice of ecological lifestyle education among universities and youth networks in Vietnam. C&E wants to adapt the idea of socio-ecological transformation into its activities philosophy and also the concept of Just Transition and Just Climate.

The project 2019 will not only apply the toolkits and education approaches that have been built in the previous part of the project but also promote to integrate ecological lifestyle more widely and deeply among lecturers and students and build a strong partnership between C&E, RLS, universities, youth networks, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, in the year 2019, C&E will re-enforce and expand the “Action Network for Sustainable Development in Ecology and Society” which was proposed in 2018.

Project objectives

Overall Objective

Politically engaged actors to explore and develop progressive approaches to and concepts for coherent social, ecological and economic policies; at the same time foster interaction in local, national and regional networks.

Specific Objectives:

Composing training toolkits specialized for different topics in depth related to ecological lifestyle

Title of position: Experts for development and finalization of curriculums on Ecological Lifestyle Education (training toolkits)

A detailed description of activities:

  • C&E will invite experts to (1) revise the existing 2018 toolkits and (2) compose new 2019 toolkits. The new toolkits need to be designed carefully so that lecturers and universities and use them flexibly in their activities. These toolkits will serve as a guide to assist lecturers in the integration of ecological lifestyle topics into curriculum or extra-curricular lessons for students.

In which:

  • Compose (Development and Finalisation) 03 new 2019 topics including (i) Climate Change and Eco-Lifestyles (including Just Climate and Energy); and (ii) Eco-space (including Leisure and Entertainment) (iii) Permaculture. Each toolkit will contain presentations, photos, tips and reading materials related to the given topic.
  • Revise 03 old 2018 topics including: (i) Zero Waste Lifestyles and (ii) Sustainable Shopping and (iii) Gardening

With these six topics as Climate Change and Eco-Lifestyles (including Just Climate and Energy); Eco-space (including Leisure and Entertainment); Permaculture; Zero Waste Lifestyles; Sustainable Shopping; Gardening,  the lecturers will integrate sustainable knowledge into lectures to support students to have the overall perspective, interdisciplinary, multi-level. As a result, both students and lectures can change their daily behavior, spread the message to their community and apply in future careers towards ecological lifestyle to adapt and mitigate climate change.

Upon completion, the toolkits will be spread to eco-trainers, lecturers and youth leaders in C&E’s eco-network to use in their training and activities. It will also be used for the online course that will be described in details in an activity.

The output of the activity:

“Guidebook on the integration of ecological lifestyle into educational activities for youth” with 03 old revised toolkits and composed 03 new toolkits on 6 different topics above- mentioned related to integrating ecological lifestyle. These guidebooks will be focused on integrating into educational program and activities in order to change learners’ awareness and action.

These guide books will be supported lecturers, trainers and youth activists to inspire their learners in a diverse, scientific-based and interesting way. It introduces methods to integrate these topics into the educational program as well as activities in order to change learners’ awareness and action. As a result, learners can apply this into their future career and spread to their community where they live, study and work.

Furthermore, this guidebook will not be designed for lecturers, trainers and youth activists only, it is a simple tool for every individuals and organization who seek to understand and integrate topics related to ecological lifestyle into extracurricular, training or educational activities for young people. No matter who you are or where you work, you can be an inspirer to your community.

SUPERVISION 

C&E-Rosa project coordinator has overall management of the work of the consultant. The consultant will be in direct contact with the C&E-Rosa project coordinator. She/he will work under the supervision of the Rosa Programmed Officer and will be ultimately responsible.

DEGREE OF EXPERTISE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education background
    • Master degree: environment, climate change, natural resources management, social sciences, sustainable development
  2. Experience
    • Working experience of at least 10-15 years relevant
    • Have experience in working with youth and community
  3. Competencies
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and interactions in a dynamic context
    • Ability to work to tight deadlines and in stressful conditions
    • Working experience with Vietnamese Government agencies
  4. Language requirements
    • Excellent communication skills in Vietnamese

The required number for this position:

  • 03 experts for the development of  03 new topics on (i) Climate Change and Eco-Lifestyles (including Just Climate and Energy); and (ii) Eco-space (including Leisure and Entertainment) (iii) Permaculture.

Duties and responsibilities

The experts will be responsible for composing the training toolkits. The experts will be entrusted with the following main tasks:

  1. Learn and research C&E toolkits in previous publications;
  2. Arrange her/his own time to collect information, develop outlines for toolkits;
  3. Communicate with C&E and relevant stakeholders searching for information and consultation in the process of compiling toolkits;
  4. Draft the training toolkit and submit the first draft to the C&E for review;
  5. Prepare a second draft based on the C&E’s inputs received;
  6. Finalize the toolkit based on feedback received and submit it to the C&E.
  7. Each toolkit will contain presentations, photos, tips and reading materials related to the given topic.
  1. EXPERT FOR FINALISATION OF NEW TOOLKITS (2019)

The time required for  revision and finalization 03 new toolkits is estimated 06 working days

The required number for this position:

  • 01 expert for finalize 03 new topics on (i) Climate Change and Eco-Lifestyles (including Just Climate and Energy); and (ii) Eco-space (including Leisure and Entertainment) (iii) Permaculture.

Duties and responsibilities

The expert will be responsible for finalizing the newly-composed training toolkit in Vietnamese. The expert will be entrusted with the following main tasks:

  1. Learn and research C&E toolkits in previous publications;
  2. Arrange her/his own time to collect information, develop outlines for toolkits revision;
  3. Communicate with C&E and relevant stake holders searching for information and consultation in the process of revising toolkits – Arrange a time for meeting with C&E and authors if requested;
  4. Work with authors of the toolkits and discuss a possible amendment that will be made to their products;
  5. Present the changes to the authors and C&E for their feedbacks and finalise the products.
  1. EXPERT FOR REVIEW AND FINALISATION OF EXISTING TOOLKITS (2018)

The time required for  revised and finalized 03 old toolkits is estimated 06 working days

The required number for this position:

  • 01 expert for finalizing 03 old toolkits from 2018(i) Zero Waste Lifestyles and (ii) Sustainable Shopping and (iii) Gardening.

Duties and responsibilities

The experts will be responsible for composing and finalize the 03 old toolkits both Vietnamese and English of 2018 products. The experts will be entrusted with the following main tasks:

  1. Learn and research C&E 2018 toolkits in previous publications;
  2. Arrange her/his own time to collect information, develop outlines for toolkits revision;
  3. Communicate with C&E and relevant stake holders searching for information and consultation in the process of revising toolkits
  4. Arrange a time for meeting with C&E and authors if requested;
  5. Work with authors of the toolkits and discuss a possible amendment that will be made to their products;
  6. Actively communicate, searching for comments, feedbacks from relevant stakeholders who had already used the 2018 toolkits in their works;
  7. Summary and formalization of the information into revisions and discuss it with C&E and authors;
  8. Develop his/her own observations, recommendations, and remarks that are concluded from his or her experience learning the toolkits and integrate it into the revised version;

Present the changes to the authors and C&E for their feedbacks and finalize the products.

Title of position: Design for 3 toolkits a part of finalize (old version 2018)

Output of the activity:
