Project “Research and Proposal for a Pilot Program to Integrate Renewable Energy and Zero Carbon/Energy Transition Content into Higher Education Curricula.

Project “Research and recommendation for the implementation of a pilot program to integrate the contents of Renewable Energy and Zero Carbon/Energy Transition into university and college education.” This survey provides essential information for designing educational interventions to promote energy transition within higher education institutions, specifically by establishing a baseline dataset on students’ awareness of the climate crisis, energy sources, energy transition, and net-zero emissions goals.

Six universities and colleges participated in the survey, including CCTV, DNUST, HUNRE, NTU, TNUS, and VGU. The research team conducted in-depth interviews with 10 scholars and experts (recorded and transcribed), organized 6 focus group discussions (FGDs)—one at each institution—with a total of 51 student participants, and collected 278 responses from an online questionnaire. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS 16.0 software, employing frequency analysis and cross-tabulations to identify key statistical trends. Additionally, thematic and lexical analyses were applied to qualitative data from the online survey and in-depth interviews to identify core themes.

The analysis clearly illustrates students’ awareness, attitudes, and behaviors regarding the climate crisis, energy sources, energy transition, and net-zero emissions goals. It also highlights students’ preferences and choices regarding strategies and intervention techniques aimed at enhancing energy awareness and promoting behavior change in the higher education context.
