Sustainable management of natural forest in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam in the third year project’s cycle

Nội dung bài viết ở đây2014 is the last year of the project “Sustainable management of natural forest through raising awareness and building capacity to improve the rights and legal status of ethnic minority communities to natural forest in central Vietnam (2012-2014)” which is sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS). For 2014, the project has following specific objectives

  1. To help local ethnic minority communities develop forest management model that are locally suitable and environment-friendly
  2. To empower local ethnic minority households / communities in the process of allocating forest land.
  3. To advocate for a community forest model that balances environmental interest and local communities’ traditional way of life.

 

This year, C&E and local partners who are Forest Protection Department of Quang Nam province and the Forestry Science and Technology Association in Thua Thien Hue will continue supporting the activities of 2 environmentally friendly forest use clubs in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam which were established in 2013. A new environmentally friendly forest use club will be established in Quang Nam this year. The supporting activities for clubs include dialogues, trainings, knowledge contest and periodical meetings. Besides the assisting activities above, the new club will be supported with sharing and learning fieldtrips and equipments support such as clothes, hand speaker, board, chair and table, panel, bookshelf in order to propagate and enhance people’s awareness of the environmentally friendly forest use model. Based on the desk study findings on  reviewing legal documents related to the process of land and forest allocation in the project area have done in 2013, we will develop a set of  communication and training materials, organize trainings about the participation of local people in land and forest allocation process. We will use the results of the project after 3 years as inputs for national lconference and for advicacy to apply this model widely.

 

To ensure the success of the project, C&E and local partners will commit the resources of the organization and the network and assign its personnel to implement, manage and monitor the project. C&E will also implement a monitoring and evaluating mechanism to ensure timely solutions to any risks or unexpected issues happen during the process.
