NUTRITION FESTIVAL DAY – OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

NUTRITION FESTIVAL DAY – OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

On November 30, 2024, at Nam Trung Yen Secondary School, under the direction and coordination of the Department of Education and Training of Cau Giay District, C&E Center successfully organized the Nutrition Festival Day including a Nutrition Seminar to summarize the project’s activities and Outdoor Activities – where students came to visit and participate in interesting and useful activities.

Outdoor activities include 5 Houses, including: Avocado’s House – Exhibition of our paintings and photo; Mother Bean’s House – Exchange trash for plants; Tomato’s House – Recycle bottles and jars into flower pots; Corn’s House – Game “Food Journey”; Teacher Fish’s House – Game “Choose the right nutrients”. All bring interesting experiences, memorable memories and nutritional knowledge cleverly integrated into each activity for the students.

Student Anh Thu, who came to the Nutrition Festival Day, shared that she felt very happy to come to the festival and visit the houses, participate in games and collect many interesting gifts. She asked how long it would be before the next Nutrition Festival Day and told us that she looked forward to it.

AVOCADO’S HOUSE – Exhibition of our paintings and photos

The first house that students visited when arriving at the festival area was the Avocado’s House – where paintings on the theme of nutritious food, images of Rikolto, C&E and memorable moments during the project implementation were displayed. In addition, there was also an exhibition of products bearing the mark of “Good Food at School” such as nutrition documents for students and teachers, familiar aprons and chef hats every time the children showed off their skills in making delicious dishes, 5 mascots: Tomato, Avocado, Corn, Mother Bean, and Teacher Fish, who were funny and lovely, accompanying the children at every event, along with gift sets including cups, notebooks, and cute keychains as gifts for the children to take home,… Not only that, the exhibition also had fun questions and word-catching puzzles about nutrition for the students to solve and receive gifts, both reviewing knowledge and getting gifts to take home, so everyone was extremely excited.

CORN’S HOUSE – Game “Food Journey”

In this game, students can explore the path of food from farm to table. Food has to go through many different stages: from growing vegetables, fruit trees, packaging, transporting, distributing, consuming products, then the ingredients are processed into nutritious dishes, instead of throwing away leftover food, agricultural by-products causing waste, they are used as fertilizer for plants, starting a new cycle.

Under the guidance of the host, students are divided into 4 teams, members need to find their own team’s keyword by rolling the dice and following the requirements on the rolled side, each time they complete the challenge, they will receive a letter in the keyword they need to find. The atmosphere of the game is extremely stirring, everyone is very excited to participate. Through the game, students learn more interesting knowledge about nutritional balance as well as the path of food from farm to table and motivate them to pay attention to their daily meals.

TEACHER FISH’S HOUSE – Game “Choose the right nutrients”

This is the hardest game according to the comments of the students who came to play the Festival. The game was simulated by the organizers from the game Splendor, the card set was redesigned according to the theme of nutrition with 4 groups of substances: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins & minerals. Each card will carry a certain number of points, whoever collects enough cards to get 12 points wins. However, it is not easy to get such cards, students need to “buy” coins by answering the nutrition quizzes.

To play “Choose the right nutrients”, students not only need to have knowledge about essential nutrient groups but also need to calculate and consider buying coins to exchange for cards reasonably and achieve the required score as quickly as possible. The game is “brain-teasing” but interesting, students are all extremely eager to explore new ways of playing and bring home interesting gifts bearing the project’s mark.

MOTHER BEAN’S HOUSE – Exchange trash for plants

Not only providing useful activities to encourage students to eat in moderation, choose nutritionally balanced foods, and pay attention to food safety and hygiene, the Nutrition Festival also has a trash exchange booth, helping students form the habit of sorting and minimizing inorganic waste released into the environment.

For each amount of trash brought, students received a corresponding succulent to take home and plant. The organizers were very surprised when students lined up early to exchange trash for green gifts.

Fortunately, the Organizer had the help of Tagom members who came to the Festival to guide students to exchange trash, classify trash by themselves and bring many small but useful lessons in the journey of green living. The amount of trash after the event was transported to Tagom’s partner recycling plant to create a new life cycle.

TOMATO’S HOUSE – Recycle bottles and jars into flower pots

“Does the plant have a pot to grow in?” When receiving this question from the students, the coordinators of the trash exchange house will immediately point to the Tomato’s House – where the students will “revive” empty bottles and milk cartons into beautiful, colorful potted plants. With just pens, paints and a little creativity, the students will have their own pots of succulents to put on their desks, decorating their bookshelves with their own unique colors. The activity not only attracts the skillful girls, but also the boys who participate enthusiastically, painting the monochrome bottles into beautiful potted plants. At the end of the session, the students also help the organizers clean up, wash their paint brushes and rearrange the paint bottles, which is extremely adorable.

NIFAM BOOTH

Not only having the project booths and games, the Nutrition Festival Day also had the participation of the NIFAM booth. The students were very excited to see the photos of the project activities, learn more about school gardens, children’s rights regarding the environment and interesting practices when designing and building school gardens.

The Nutrition Festival Day – Outdoor Activities ended successfully with happy smiles from the students. Everyone gained memorable memories, cute little gifts and gained more knowledge about nutrition and interesting food. See all of you at future events!
