Promoting Socio-ecological transformation
Integration of ecological lifestyle and movements into universities
Hue, 20 August 2019 – 35 young lectures from universities across Vietnam will be participating the training “Promoting Socio-ecological transformation: Integration of ecological lifestyle and movements into universities – Innovative approaches from theory to practice”. The program will be held in Hue city from 23 to 26 August 2019.
We are living in an era when climate change and environmental crisis have become global alarming threats to ecosystems, food production, water supplies and health. The three pilars of sustainable society are economy, social and ecological environment, but in fact, the development of many countries, especially developing ones, prioritizes economic factors over social and ecological environment. This has posed a big question of the concept of development for a better life. Is the economic and ecological transformation without social element the solution to current environmental crisis? All over the world and in Vietnam, communities have been shown to strongly respond to infringement activities on “the Mother Nature”. National governments have also recognized serious consequences on the environment and society when economic development relies entirely on resources, lacking indigenous communities or community participation to the conversion process. The transitional process (climate change combat, clean energy …) at international and national levels needs to give opportunities to all classes of society, especially disadvantaged groups. Indigenous communities need to have an equal voice to multinational corporations in the process of planning and implementing policies related to climate and energy transformation at both international and national levels. That is the principle of social and ecological transformation into the development associated with ecology, humanities values, respect for equality and limits of development.
This is the key driver of Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) organizing the training of trainers “Promoting Socio-ecological transformation: Integration of ecological lifestyle and movements into universities – Innovative approaches from theory to practice” with an aim to establish a network of universities for actions and spreading ecological lifestyle through innovative approaches to integrating social and ecological issues into lesson planning for the youth’s behaviour change. As a result, it assists to create a network of ecological ambassadors promoting a community of natural living and aiming at sustainable social and ecological values.
The program gathers 35 young lecturers aged from 25 to 35 from universities in three regions of Vietnam and takes place from 23 to 26 August 2019. Participants will have an opportunity to gain new insights, share knowledge and learn from experts’ and other participants’ experience. The training consists of intensive training activities under the topics of materials composed by C&E, experience and discussions on topics related to practical ecological and social issues in communities. Additionally, lecturers will be attending workshop “Advocacy of integration of Socio-ecological transformation into university: Perspectives and innovative approaches from ecological movements to educational program”, held on 26 August 2019 with the aim to create chances for them to exchange and share with stakeholders about socio-ecological transformation models so that a network related to sustainable socio-ecological transformation will be established in Vietnam.
The training and workshop will introduce topics of socio-ecological transformation, climate justice, energy democracy, eco-space and permaculture. These may be novel topics but closely related to life. After the program, participants are encouraged to get Access to socio-ecological transformation network for supporting, promoting and spreading activities integrated ecological lifestyle and movements to their community.
