In June, 2014, in Khe Tran village (Hue) and Xa Nghin I village (Quang Nam), there were trainings to raise awareness and build capacity through the participation of local people in community forest management, protection and development. In July, 2014, the project “Sustainable management of natural forest through raising awareness and building capacity to improve the rights and legal status of ethnic minority communities to natural forest in central Vietnam (2012-2014)” organized a traning course on raising awareness and building capacity in land and forest allocation through participation of the local community in Areh village (July 15th, 16th) and Khe Tran village (July 19th, 20th). The project is conducted by Center for Development of Community Initiative and Environment (C&E) and sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southeast Asia.

COMPETITION: KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NATURAL FOREST USE AND MANAGEMENT

In August 2014, Environmentally friendly forest use club in Xa Nghin I village (Quang Nam, 23/8/2014) and in Khe Tran village (30/08/2014) organized knowledge competition about natural forest use and management. The competition attracted more than 300 participants from different backgrounds. Through the competiton, club members and local people in the 2 communes had the opportunity to test their knowledge and learn more about forest protection, forestry, or their rights and responsibilities… The highlight of the competition was that it created a chance for local people to exchange ideas, relax and bring a lot of laughter to the community.

A TRIPOD IN COMMUNITY FOREST MANAGEMENT

Effective community forest management requires a coordination mechanism amongst stakeholders including environmentally friendly forest use clubs and local authorities in communes and districts. This is one of the messages shared during the dialogue about coordination mechanisms amongst stakeholders in sustainable forest use and management in Khe Tran village (Thua Thien Hue) and Xa Nghin I village (Quang Nam) during August, 2014.
